LIGHT DORY MARK II

A John Welsford
design

Length — 16’ 10”
Beam — 4’ 2”
Draft — 7”

There’s hardly another type of small craft that breathes so much history and romance as a sturdy dory. In fact, the first known reference to a dory dates as far back as 1719! Henry David Thoreau built one for himself in 1839 to do a little river cruising (took a week to build it, but his brother helped).

New Zealand designer John Welsford has interpreted the classic Bank dory into an elegant and modern design that furnishes the maximum in rowing ability for a relative minimum in building time.

Our kits are precision-cut by computer-controlled routers from African mahogany plywood and other first-class marine-grade materials. Fastenings and fittings are bronze, stainless steel and nylon. All you need to furnish is some space, some labor, a few hand tools, and the glue and paint of your choice. No previous boatbuilding experience is necessary. Our illustrated manual provides step-by-step instructions, and our technical staff is also available to answer any questions during the building process.
